Tips to help you move home by Christmas

Having a smooth transition when moving can depend on many factors, be financial, legal or just general logistical variables. But of course, there are things you can do to help the process go smoother and beat the Christmas deadline.

Prepare your home to be sold

So, you’ve decided to move before Christmas? well then, it’s a really good idea to get your home in shape and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Redecorate, de-clutter, add a fresh coat of paint (it can work wonders) whatever’s necessary, maybe even a deep clean.

Turning a storage/junk room into a workable space is also a great idea to make your home even more appealing.

Patience

Establish timescales, that being said sometimes you don’t have any other option than to sit tight. This doesn’t mean you can’t communicate with your estate agent or solicitor to reach out to the buyer/seller on your behalf which could help increase your chance of a successful resolution.

Be sure to make it clear that you want to move before Christmas, the last day you can complete and move house before Christmas is Friday 20 December 2019.

Tie up any loose ends

Let your utility companies know that you are moving and arrange for your mail to be forwarded to your new address once contracts have been exchanged. Include your new address in your Christmas cards to save money and time on sending change of address cards.

Look after the little ones

Be it young children or small animals, moving house can be quite stressful for the little guys. Keep animals separated from the removals and packing/unpacking of boxes by putting them in another room. Ask a friend to look after kids for the day, they can become anxious about leaving their home but this way they will remain unsettled and can enjoy arriving at their new one even more.
